The compression ratio is dropped to 10.5:1, and the crankshaft is nitrided for added durability. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard 4Motion all-wheel drive, this Tiguan finally has the grunt to match its bold styling.
VW also upsized the brake discs and enhanced the fuel injection system to handle the increased output. Even with all the extra power, the engine runs on regular fuel and continues to operate on the Miller cycle to balance performance with fuel economy.
Design
The 2026 Tiguan continues on the MQB evo platform with design cues that align more with North American tastes. It has a higher nose, slimmer headlights, and shorter rear overhangs, giving it a more muscular and SUV-like appearance. The SEL R-Line Turbo builds on that with a standard 20-inch wheels made of aluminum-alloy, black roof and black mirror caps. And because it’s the top-spec trim, creature comforts abound.
