Ford Capri has returned, and it has returned with a change of heart, not as the rear-wheel-drive sports coupe you might recall. Rather, Ford has brought back the Capri name plate for 2025 as an electric crossover that has contemporary technology and nostalgic design features. The new Capri, which is a Europe only Coupe is based on the same chassis as the VW ID .4, Ford Explorer EV, Skoda Elroq among others and is designed to fill a gap in the expanding market for electric SUVs. But is this merely another crossover with a well-known insignia, or will it live up to the history of its predecessor? Let’s take a look…
Glimpse
First introduced in 1969 as Ford’s answer to affordable European sports cars, the Capri soon developed a cult following which lasted over the decades. The 2025 model, however, takes a bold departure from its coupe origins, adopting a four-door crossover coupe design.
Ford has given the new Capri quite a distinctive styling, a fastback roofline, (that give it a running similarity to BMW X6 though a smaller one in length and height, but surprisingly, it is a little wider than BMW X6 which is 2004mm wide while Capri is 2063mm wide), body looks well sculpted, and modern aesthetic 04 signature LED headlights. The front fascia features a closed-off grille, that emphasizes its electric nature, the rear sports a full-width light bar reminiscent of the classic Capri flanked by a four-piece tail light on both sides. The aerodynamic silhouette is designed for helping improve range while still looking a sporty aesthetic coupe. 19, 20 & 21 inch alloy wheel options are available.

Ford Capri: Powertrain and Performance
The 2025 Ford Capri is built on Volkswagen’s MEB platform—the same underpinnings used in the Explorer EV and VW Id. Two powertrain options will be available: a single-motor rear-wheel-drive version and a more powerful dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant. The AWD model produces 335 horsepower, making it the most potent Capri ever.
Battery options include a 52 kWh & 77 kWh unit, depending on the trim, delivering an estimated range of up to 389 miles (WLTP). As Capri comes with fast-charging capabilities, it can go from 10% to 80% charge in approximately 28 minutes when using a DC fast charger.
Ford Capri: Driving Dynamics
While it is not the front-engine and rear-wheel-drive layout of the original Capri, it is different, the new Capri is an exciting e-version for the modern times. Available as an electric motor powered RWD or AWD options, Capri promises an engaging handling, by placing the battery strategically and tuning the suspension properly, giving Capri a low center of gravity.
It also has selectable drive modes, namely, Normal, Eco, Sport, Individual or Traction(AWD only) which adjusts performance characteristics based on road conditions and driving preferences. Capri has a 187mm and a 135mm fully loaded unloaded ground clearance.

Ford Capri: Interior and Technology
Capri’s interior is high-tech and its cabin feels minimalist, with standard massage function for the driver seat, 12 way adjustable heated drivers seat available in higher trims, 15-inch adjustable touchscreen infotainment system with Ford SYNC Move, 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Sliding center console for customizable storage solutions, 07 speaker audio system(Capri Premium however comes fitted with a 10 speaker B&O music system), Dual-Zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (DEATC).
Ford Capri: Connectivity
Over-the-air software updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an advanced voice recognition system to keep you connected.

Safety and Driver Assistance
Capri is equipped with several advanced driver-assist features like Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane-Keeping System with Blind Spot Assist, 360-degree camera, Automated Parking Assist & others.

Ford Capri: Trim Levels and Pricing
The 2025 Ford Capri will be available in two primary trims: Capri and Capri Premium. Though exact U.K. pricing is yet to be confirmed, Capri is expected to start around £42,500 ($54,000 USD)), which positions it among the premium electric SUV’s.

How It Stacks Up Against Competitors
The new Capri enters in a segment which is chiefly dominated by models like the Tesla Model Y, Polestar 2, and Volkswagen ID.5.
Model | Powertrain | Range (WLTP) | 0-62 mph | Price (UK) |
Ford Capri | RWD/AWD | Up to 390 miles | ~5.3 sec (AWD) | ~£48,000 |
Tesla Model Y | RWD/AWD | Up to 331 miles | ~5.0 sec (AWD) | ~£45,000 |
Polestar 2 | RWD/AWD | Up to 406 miles | ~4.7 sec (AWD) | ~£46,000 |
VW ID.5 | RWD/AWD | Up to 339 miles | ~5.4 sec (AWD) | ~£50,000 |
Capri has an edge over its competitors in the range but its biggest selling point lies in the brand heritage and unique styling. However, Capri as a e-Crossover Coupe and the Tesla Model Y still leads in the charging infrastructure, but Ford’s is not sitting idle and it is working to grow its BlueOval charging network and aims to close the gap.

Availability:
Ford has made Capri Chiefly for the European markets and still has no plans to bring it to US, but we don’t know what future holds. Capri is expected to launch by the second half of 2025.
Final Thoughts:
2025 Ford Capri a great reimagination of a classic, which is sophisticated, loaded with technology, provides a solid range, engaging driving, premium interiors and if not all that its looks can change the game in its favor.
