2026 Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept: The Most Audacious AMG GT Ever Built

With 1,340 horsepower, 850kW charging, and a yoke where the steering wheel used to be, the AMG GT XX Concept might be the most futuristic-looking AMG ever built, and its likely much closer to production than the word ‘concept’ suggests.

  • 1,340 hp and 0–124 mph in 5 seconds, AMG’s electric future isn’t timid.
  • Built with three motors, oil-cooled batteries, and a top speed over 220 mph.
  • A pop-up airbrake, active aero wheels, and charging speeds that would make most EVs blush.

A Concept With a Production Path

The Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept isn’t your average showpiece EV by any means. Its bold, its wild, deeply engineered, and if the hints are anything to go by, it will be heading production in 2026.

If you thought the AMG One was over the top, this is even more ambitious, and fully electric.

Power: A Megawatt of Madness

Underneath the aero-obsessed bodywork of GT XX sits an electric tri-motor layout which generates a superbly impressive 1,340 horsepower. That’s 1 megawatt of power in real-world speak. Two motors live on the rear axle with a shared planetary gearbox and One sits up front, ready to add traction and shove as needed.

AMG claims 0–200 km/h (124 mph) in just five seconds, and a top speed of over 223 mph. That puts it in shouting distance of Rimac Nevera and Lotus Evija.

850kW Charging

It can charge at up to 850kW, thanks to an 800V electrical architecture and what Mercedes calls its “next-generation high-performance battery system.” In theory, that’s enough to regain 250 miles of range in about five minutes, if the charger can handle it.

And that’s the catch. No public stations currently support that kind of juice, but Mercedes is already working with suppliers like Alpitronic to build the future the GT XX needs. You can still plug it into a standard 350kW CCS charger today, just don’t expect the full zap.

Design

It’s hard to look at the GT XX and not feel like AMG finally cut loose. This thing is low, wide, unapologetic, and yes, oh so very orange. It draws inspiration from the old C111 prototypes, right down to the wild gullwing profile, but it’s all-new in shape and function.

Active aero features include a deployable rear wing and airbrake, underbody vanes, and even adaptive wheel surfaces on the 21-inch rims. That keeps drag low (Mercedes quotes a 0.20 drag coefficient) and looks wild in motion.

The headlights double as speaker grilles for emitting driving sounds. The taillight features Mercedes-AMG’s new MBUX Fluid Light Panel, a strip of over 700 programmable RGB LEDs arranged in a 3D pixel layout. It can display real-time animations like the AMG logo or charging status, turning the rear end into a dynamic, digital display that interacts with the outside world.

Inside: Sci-Fi Studio to Steering Yoke

The cabin is equal parts spaceship and engineering showcase. The yoke-style steering wheel comes from the AMG One. The seats are bare carbon, but there’s Labfiber on the dash and doors, now that’s a new material made from recycled rubber and plant-based proteins. Tech is quite visible, you can notice orange high-voltage cables running along the spine of the console. The start button glows like a reactor core.

Aero Wheels

The Active Aero Wheel is a patented first 21-inch forged aluminum wheels with movable blades that adjust on the go. When tucked in, they act to smooth airflow for better efficiency and range, when opened up, they let cooling air hit the brakes. It’s a clever fix to the age-old tradeoff between performance and aero.

Final Words

It’s still called a concept, but AMG hints that it will reach production in some form in 2026, and the building blocks. like the new motor units, steer-by-wire tech, and battery cooling, are already past the prototype stage.
