Volvo EX60 is the upcoming electric SUV of Volvo and it is taking a major step forward in safety. With the introduction of a world’s first multi-adaptive seatbelt and a host of expected tech and performance upgrades.
EX60 is Starting a New Chapter in Passenger Safety
In 1959, the automaker introduced the three-point belt, and decades later, Volvo is back at it again—this time with the debut of the world’s first multi-adaptive safety belt, arriving on the upcoming 2026 Volvo EX60 before gradually making its way across the lineup.
How Multi-Adaptive Safety Belt Works
This seatbelt system is not reactive, it’s proactive and it works in tandem with a suite of in-cabin sensors to anticipate impacts, body posture shifts, and driver fatigue.
Instead of waiting for a crash to tighten, the multi-adaptive belt adjusts its tension in real time based on data from the car’s new Safety Zone System. That system includes sensors tracking head and body position, braking force, and driver behavior. In effect, it’s a smarter seatbelt that behaves more like a partner than a passive restraint.

Ability To Evolve
Perhaps the most impressive part of the EX60’s safety belt system is its ability to evolve. Over time, the vehicle can update its response based on a growing pool of crash data, learning how different occupants respond in different types of accidents.
What We Know So Far About the EX60
Volvo hasn’t released the full spec sheet yet, but some educated guesses and recent reports point to a strong showing. As Carscoops reported, the EX60 will likely ride on the same SPA2 platform underpinning the EX90 and Polestar 3. That means dual-motor AWD, a battery range likely in the ballpark of 300 to 370 miles (WLTP), and access to Volvo’s latest interface and design philosophy.
Volvo EX60 Design & Interior
Also expected is Volvo’s minimalist cabin design, a Google-based infotainment system, and a layout free from clutter. Recently launched EX90 debuted with a large portrait-style screen and a slim digital gauge cluster, the EX60 will probably echo that formula, albeit in a slightly scaled-down version.

Where is EX60 Positioned
On size, the EX60 is expected to sit comfortably between the XC60 and EX90, aimed squarely at competitors like the Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3, and Mercedes EQE SUV.
More Than Just Tech for Tech’s Sake
EX60 will be seeing the introduction of the world’s first adaptive safety belt system but that’s not it, Volvo says the EX60 will also support OTA (over-the-air) updates and come equipped with its latest Pilot Assist ADAS suite. If the EX90’s lidar system makes it into this model (even as an option), expect one of the most capable semi-autonomous platforms in the segment.
