It sits 1.2 inches lower than the standard E-208, got a wider stance of 2.2 inches in front and just over an inch in the back.
Peugeot’s electric GTi makes 280 horsepower and an impressive torque figure of 345 Nm.
• With all these tweaks and a double figure increase in Ponies comparing to the older gas version, it is now able to ring 0–100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds

It’s been four decades since the 205 GTi put Peugeot on the hot hatch map. and now, Peugeot is back in the game. But this time (as the name suggests) the new PEUGEOT E-208 GTi has traded gas for electrons, but stays true to the kind of thrill that made the original a legend.

Unveiled at Le Mans—pretty fitting for a performance car, right?

Lets take a look…

Powertrain

The E-208 GTi comes with a 280-horsepower electric motor, which translates to 276 hp for us in the U.S., and delivers 345 Nm of torque, about 255 pound-feet. It might not seem like much, but when you consider that the regular E-208 only has 136 horsepower, this GTi almost doubles that.

0-62 mph

Thanks to that extra power, it can go from 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds, placing it right in line with the Golf GTI. Its top speed is electronically limited to 112 mph, making it more suited for roads which it intends for, rather than high-speed racing.

Motor

Now an interesting fact about its motor. which comes from the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce, now this is some advantage of Stellantis’ parts-sharing system, and it’ll be made in France at the Trémery facility as part of a collaboration with Nidec Leroy-Somer.

The Chassis

Peugeot Sport—known for their work on the 9X8 Le Mans hypercar—developed the E-208 GTi. And as expected, they brought some serious racing pedigree to make sure this car stands out on the road.

It sits 1.2 inches lower than the standard E-208, with a wider stance of 2.2 inches in front and just over an inch in the back. These tweaks doesn’t feel like much but they really change how the car drives. With hydraulic bump stops, a limited-slip differential, and an improved ESP system featuring a Sport mode, it has some solid setup for performance.

Tires & Brakes

The tires are worth mentioning too. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires in 215/40R18, a choice usually seen on track-ready cars. This might seem either brilliant or a bit crazy for a daily driver, but we’ll find out what it’s like.

It comes with 14-inch discs and four-piston calipers up front in a sporty red. Interestingly, they kept the same rear brakes as the standard E-208, likely because the front-heavy electric setup doesn’t need major stops at the back.

The Design

While many new performance cars look over-the-top, the E-208 GTi takes a more understated approach. Yes, it’s got a front splitter, rear diffuser, and wider wheel arches, but it won’t turn heads for the wrong reasons.

The 18-inch wheels have that cool, perforated look—and if they remind you of the old 205 GTi’s telephone dial rims, that’s no accident. They’re a nice visual throwback, but they’re functional too, helping to keep the brakes cool. And the red striping around the wheel arches? Just the right amount of attitude without trying too hard.

Inside, it’s all GTi, with red carpets and stitching that give it a sportier vibe. The seats are comfy, but they’re shaped to support you when you feel like leaning into the throttle.

The Reality Check

Before we get too excited, there’s a downside: the 54-kWh battery. Peugeot says it has a 218-mile range on the WLTP cycle, but realistic numbers might swing around 180-200 miles under normal driving conditions. If you push it hard, which it intends to, may be you will be seeing somewhere around 150-160 miles before needing to recharge, will let you know when we get the confirmation on range figures.

Now, This isn’t a huge problem for drivers in Europe who typically take shorter trips, but it’s definitely a challenge for electric performance cars. Going for maximum performance tends to drain the battery faster.

On the bright side, it can charge from 20 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes on a 100-kW fast charger. If you’re using a 7.4-kW wallbox, a full charge takes about 4 hours and 40 minutes.

What We’re Missing

The unfortunate truth is that American buyers won’t get a chance to drive this car. Peugeot left the U.S. market a long time ago and isn’t making any moves to come back. Even if they did, that smaller battery might scare off potential buyers looking for longer ranges.

It’s a shame because the E-208 GTi is the kind of electric car that could really change opinions about EV performance.

Bigger Picture

The PEUGEOT E-208 GTi arrives at a pivotal moment, Old-school hatches are fading away due to tougher emissions regulations and changing consumer tastes.

Peugeot seems to get this. Instead of just cramming a electric motor into the E-208, they’ve put serious thoughts into its chassis, tire choice, and overall setup.

Whether they’ve nailed it will be seen soon enough.

Final Thoughts

For fans in the U.S., the E-208 GTi is a reminder of what we’re missing out on. While we Americans loves debating over horsepower numbers and powerful pickups, european buyers might soon enjoy an electric hot hatch that’s fun to drive.

If only it could make its way back to the States.
